Year Two: Great Instructors, Exciting Events, Upcoming Travel

This weekend we kicked off year two of Brazos Fellows! What a joy to welcome our cohort to Waco, commission them at Christ Church, and enjoy getting to know them over several long meals and many cups of coffee. For photos of our orientation weekend, scroll all the way down.

Please pray for Emily, Savannah Anne, Victoria, and Emily as they begin this work. Specifically, I want to ask you to pray for God’s blessing as they study, pray, and seek the Lord’s call on them. We are asking the Lord to make this work fruitful–in their lives, for the building up of the church, and for the sake of the world. Thank you for joining us in this prayer.

I want to let you know about several exciting things happening this semester:

Big Questions, Great Instructors

This morning, we begin our Course of Study, and just like last year, we’re starting with Paul Griffith’s great essay on the vice of curiosity and the virtue of studiousness. In the coming months we’ll be considering questions such as “How have Christians read scripture?”, “What does it mean to be embodied creatures?” and “How should we think about our place in society?” We’ll be exploring these and other topics with an incredible group of guest instructors: Ralph Wood, Bruce Hindmarsh, Natalie Carnes, Tom Ward, Elizabeth & David Corey, Malcolm Foley, David Bebbington, Junius Johnson, and many more. If you’d like to stay in the loop on our study, keep an eye on this blog for updates and new episodes of “Five Questions in Ten Minutes.”

Introducing Christian Practices

We’re excited to announce that this fall, in partnership with Baylor’s Honors Residential College, Brazos Fellows will host a three-part series titled “Introducing Christian Practices.” Students will learn about the theology and history of three ancient spiritual disciplines that can deepen their faith: praying the daily office, practicing sabbath, and spiritual direction. We welcome all to attend! More details available here.

  • Sept. 18: Praying the Daily Office
  • Sept. 25: Sabbath
  • Oct. 2: Spiritual Direction
